A Safe Haven These three words universally oblige all coastal harbours and river authorities / communities to provide shelter and facilities to any ship or mariner in time of need, regardless of origin. This principal has stood the test of time for centuries and is central to our associations constitution. The association is open to everyone of whatever interest, including non boat owners. Our main purpose is to provide, promote and support safe maritime activities while encouraging much greater use and care of the Beck and our waterways. We will continue to build a social program to encourage members to interact and create a common bond of co-operation and friendship amongst mutually interested people in the boating community with cruises in company, social evenings, barbecues, gala's, and wish to attract young people to involve them in maritime activities on our waterways. Using the skills and experience of our present membership we aim to improve the levels of competence amongst boat owners, allowing them to become more knowledgeable and skilled boat handlers hopefully leading to an increase in formal qualifications. The much improved S.L. Marine boatyard is now a secure and aesthetically pleasing place for boat owners and visitors. Courtesy of S.L. Marine, hardwork by our committee and members the association we now have a pavilion type clubhouse and secure workshop for use by all members. A Boatwatch boat safety and security system is maintained by members for the reporting of early boat security problems and as a deterrent to the unwanted attention of vandals and thieves. By our contacts with boat clubs on the Rivers Trent, Ouse and canal system we trust many more boats will visit the area and share our tranquil surroundings. The Committee will consolidate our members views and experience and nominate a spokes person to act on their behalf . The association would like to engage in proactive discussions with all the East Riding of Yorkshire waterways authorities and participate in the ongoing regeneration of the Beck to best serve its maritime preservation (an area where previously there was no consultation ?) 1. To encourage visiting boats and tourists with the provision of short stay berths and mooring points (48 hrs.) at the town end of the Beck along with fresh water and electricity supply points. 2. The early refurbishment and repair of lock gates. We hope that the wealth of technical expertise and navigational knowledge within the B.B.B.A. and other local boating clubs will be used to assist at an early stage in any future developments on the Beck and River Hull Corridor.
