MANUAL
Dear
boat owner
This
manual has been prepared to help you use your new boat. Read this manual
carefully and keep it for a future owner in case the boat is resold. Thank you for choosing our product and wish you many happy days with your
Hebrides 440, we are sure that you will enjoy this quality boat.
Happy
Boating!
The
Hebrides 440 is a multi purpose open
unsinkable motorized rowboat. The classical hull lines of the boat ensure a
good performance at sea and give it stability both in rough and smooth water.
The deep keel makes the boat track straighht through the water and the flared surfaces of the hull
considerably soften the impact from any waves. The simple ergonomic cockpit with
seats in the stern, center and bow conceal air tanks that ensure that the boat
will float even if swamped. For rowing the gunwhales have oarlocks for one pair of oars, and
footrests moulded into the inner bottom. Some models may also have been modified to drain
rainwater out automatically.
An outboard motor can be attached to the reinforced
stern. The safety of the boat is increased by incorporating a motor tray in the stern,
and
a stainless steel keelband is fitted as protection for the keel. The protective strips and fittings are
selected from marine grade materials.
The boat is made
of fiberglass as a monolithic construction. The laminate is made using
contact moulding technology with UV and waterproof polyester resin, E-glass mats
and woven rovings armoring. The Gelcoat exterior surfaces modified with
isoftal-polyester give the boat weather durability and low water absorption.
The Hebrides 440 is a vessel that complies with the European Recreational
Craft Directive design category D, and is intended for use on sheltered coastal waters,
small bays, lakes, rivers and estuaries in winds up to and including Beaufort force
4 and with significant wave height up to 0,3 meters with single waves
up to 0,5 m with a crew limit of 4
people on board. A long shaft outboard motor with a maximum capacity of 6 kW
and mass up to 30 kg is suitable for the boat, for use in very shallow water a lower
power short shaft outboard may be used but performance will be affected.
GENERAL
Before use ensure that the boat and equipment is in
good condition, safe
and undamaged.
Take care and do not rush while launching to avoid injuries.
Close the rain water
drain valve before use if fitted!
Make sure you have oars and oarlocks, a bailer,
anchor and anchor rope in the boat as a bare minimum before use. Lifejackets
are an essential piece of safety equipment and everyone should have
and wear one when in the boat. Depending on your location, flares,
first aid kit etc. and other safety equipment may be advisable.
DO NOT overload the boat, leave what is unnecessary
on shore - the allowed total load for the boat is 500 kg which inclues up to
4 people + baggage +
equipment. Position the load evenly and keep the boat in upright
on the water at all times. Do not throw heavy objects into the boat.
Make sure you are familiar with local rules and regulations,
and check the weather forecast.
When the boat is moving all passengers must remain
seated. Keep
the centre of mass of the boat as low as possible and in the middle of the boat,
avoid sudden movements in the boat and be prepared for unexpected
movement due to waves.
Make sure the boat is tied up securely in harbor or at anchor.
Remember:
Driving the boat under the influence of alcohol or
drugs is against the law!
Be courteous to other boaters; pass moored boats at
slow speed with no wash. Many waterways have a 4mph speed limit.
Avoid polluting the environment.
When coming ashore, do not get hands or feet between
the boat and a solid object, do not attempt to stop a moving boat with your
hands or feet.
Responsibility for the boat lies with the operator!
MAINTENANCE
Keep the boat clean both inside and outside. When
cleaning, avoid abrasives, acetone and solvents, use mild detergent and water.
When storing in water check the mooring ropes and open
the rainwater
valve (if fitted) On shore keep the boat on a trailer or a storage frame as
incorrect support can cause deformations.
It is beneficial to periodically treat the Gelcoat
surfaces with wax.
Try to fix damage to the Gelcoat as quickly as
possible.
Have any damage to fiberglass laminates to experts or
contact the manufacturer or distributor of the boat.
TRANSPORT
The boat can be transported on a trailer towed behind
a car or on a support frame in a truck.
For transport secure the boat to the trailer or the
truck using cargo straps.
When transporting with the motor attached, secure the
motor in the loweres position on the transom, transporting with the leg lifted
will put excessive forces on the hull and engine.
Remove loose objects from the boat!
While towing in water avoid exceeding the normal speed
of the boat.
WINTER STORAGE
Winter storage begins with cleaning the
boat when it is laid up It is much easier to remove the dirt in the autumn than the next
spring.
A slipway, boathouse or a shed is suitable for winter
storage.
Keep the boat on an even keel or upside down evenly
supported in a position that prevents deformations.
The boat can be stored outside as well, for example on
the shore or in the backyard but protection from the elements is strongly advised
- when storing in outdoor conditions cover the boat with
a tarpaulin or an opaque plastic covering.
Prevent water from getting into the boat.
EXTERNAL MOTOR
Carefully examine the user manual of the motor
before use.
Attach the motor to the stern exactly at the central
plane of the boat and to the correct height (anticavitation plate 0 to 50 mm
below the bottom line of the boat and 100 mm below the surface of the water).
If the trim angle is optimal, the shaft is at the
right angle to the water surface and the propeller axis is parallel to the
water surface.
For refueling, select a calm place, stop the motor and
avoid open flames, petrol is highly flammable!
Ensure you use the correct fuel / oil mix for 2 stroke
motors, refer to owners manual.
Close the tank properly and wipe off the spilt gasoline.
Stop the motor if there are people in the water near
the boat.
Before maintenance or transport allow the motor to
cool down. Pay attention to special position requirements for transporting 4
stroke outboards.
When selecting the motor observe the power limit
recommended by the boat manufacturer and the CE marking of the motor.
